Writer's picture: AfterGlow ChorusAfterGlow Chorus

In less than two weeks, AfterGlow Chorus will be performing the first of two very special, memorial concerts in Oakland, CA called, "Pandemic & Racism: What's Going On."

These concerts will honor the lives and victims lost to both the pandemic and racism in the past two years. We will also be honoring the 50th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" The two concerts are on Sunday, August 7th (at First Presbyterian Church in Oakland) and Sunday, August 14th (at Church of All Faiths in Oakland). Each concert will start at 4 pm.

Here are a few of the heartfelt songs of joy and sorrow that will be performed:

  • Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" (arranged by AfterGlow alum Max Addae)

  • "Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen" from the Brahms Requiem

  • "Someday We'll All Be Free" by Donny Hathaway

  • "I've Been in the Storm So Long" (African-American spiritual)

  • "Stand Up" by Cynthia Erivo from the movie "Harriet"

  • A moving arrangement by the incredible Nolan Williams, Jr. of "Done Made My Vow" (African-American spiritual)

  • Sara Bareilles' "Once Upon a Time"
